Comedians in Cars having Coffee - the episode with Chris Rock is hilarious and insightful. One gem was "Everything's about company. You can have a gourmet meal with an A-hole and it's a horrible meal, a hot dog with an interesting person an amazing meal." Serious words of Wisdom in a moment of fun. Love Always - Coach J Fresh whipped butter. I had the opportunity to have some fresh butter on some home made pancakes and WOW! Fresh butter from grass fed cows is sweet, light, and delicious! The food industry with it's need for preservatives for self life and fillers for profit is killing us, but it is also stealing sensory joy of the pure tastes that CANNOT be duplicated. Now go have some cakes (or muffins) with Real Butter baby! Love Always - Coach J From: http://runnermuniz.blogspot.com/ A young man Lucas Muniz a fine boy becoming an outstanding Man! Actually, so much has happened these past two years I don't even know where to begin. I set goals for myself, worked at them, failed countless times, dealt with setbacks/ injury's, but finally in the end triumphed and achieved what I had set out to accomplish. I am thrilled to say that I made it and that I am on the team! It is still a surreal feeling and I'm still on cloud nine. I remember receiving my first articles of gear after our first workout day. When I got back I showered, got dressed, and put on that grey T-Shirt that said Mississippi State Track and Field. I looked at myself in the mirror and I lost it. It was a very emotional moment for me. I remember time after time having dreams about that same moment and when it finally happened it was surreal. Its been almost 2 months since the first day of official practice, and I still can't believe its happened. The feeling of accomplishment in living out a dream of yours never gets old. Training has been going the best it ever has. I was averaging between 60-65 miles the past 5 or 6 weeks and have seen huge improvements already. We had an 8 mile progressive tempo on sunday morning and I ran it in 44:28 averaging 5:33 pace. A year ago I would have never thought I could run this fast. Let alone in a workout. This has been possible because regardless of how well I am doing there is whole team of people ahead of me that believe in me and push every step of the way. I think there is a strong mentality on this team that no matter how well you do, you should always search for ways to improve what you did and to never be satisfied. One of my teammates told me about how every member on the team represents a flame. Each and everyone of us should be fired up on our own and have a passion to compete and improve oneself, but when we get together we all feed off of each others flame and become a raging wildfire that can't be stopped. On and off the track we are one unit, and share one heart beat. Theres a saying that goes "For the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack" and I believe the XC team here represents that perfectly. These guys are the toughest and by far the most talented athletes I have been surrounded by. They all have the same passion and love for the sport that I have and to be able to call them my teammates and friends is truly an honor. I have high hopes for what my future on the team holds. It's going to require me to work harder than I ever have before, but this is just the beginning. I noticed that my story has reached people in 10 different nations. For those of you who are still chasing a dream of yours I hope my story inspires you even more. I want to represent the idea of possibility and handwork. Go after what it is you want, and don't look back. You are going to face hardships when you chase your dream, but you can not give up. Ultimately though, I was not able to do this on my own. My lord and savior Jesus Christ was with me every step of the way and he gave me the strength to keep pursuing my dream. If you put your faith in the lord, dedicate what it is you do to him, and truly put the decision in his hands you will receive his blessings. It might not be how you wanted to receive them, but he knows whats best for you. I told him that I would stop running if he made it clear to me that that was what he wanted, but until I received an answer I would be working as if it was in his plan. And I am very happy to say that it was and is. -Lucas- "Our greatest glory consist not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." Oliver Goldsmith" "Success isn't how far you got, but the distance you traveled from where you started." Steve Prefontaine -PS I will be doing an update on the workouts we do every two weeks. I will make my first post late this week Posted by Lucas Munizat 8:45 AM You have built up "walls" or a structure of your beliefs. You are a Democrat, you are a Baptist, you are a Feminist, or any other belief. Within these beliefs come internal expectations on how the rest of the world should behave. Is there anything you passionately believed in your youth that seems silly now? Is there anything you feel passionately about now? Younger beliefs tend to be self-based, elder to be external or legacy based. I simply ask if you are experiencing life in its entirety, compassionately. Having a life that is enjoyable daily is the essence of beauty. Michael Singer suggests - "You will never find yourself in what you have built to define yourself. You are the one that is doing the building." You are the master builder and can define your world at any time. Seek peace and love through passive observation, active love and thoughtful action. Love Always - Coach J How difficult would it be to have sight and lose it? Imagine having to start your world over one morning without your sight. Is it safe to say even daily activities from your past would have a new feel or definition? I think they would be very different to your perspective. Why not start every day with a fresh slate and experience something new each day without having to lose your sight? Move into uncharted waters and go deep. You may struggle but you will develop new muscles and you will survive. Do not mistake this for following others blindly simply go forth in Faith and Love and "see" what you've never seen before through fresh eyes and new enthusiausm. Love Always - Coach J Servant Leadership. What image, thoughts, feelings or sounds come to mind with those two words? I suggest that many of you relate this title or phrase with helping others. Leading through service may be another outlook. Today we are going to spin this a little and still keep its intent. How do you lead yourself? What does your self talk sound like? Would it be beneficial to consider your strentgths and push yourself to new limits? Do you push yourself hard or do you baby yourself? What is the tipping point. If you raise yourself as you would your child would you feed, nourish and challenge them or would you have them live in a bubble of protection. How you lead yourself will overflow to how you lead others. Challenge yourself as well as reward yourself. Work and play hard and relax when done. Keep this spirit in all layers of leadership. Serve yourself first so you are in prime position to assist others. Love Always - Coach J Life can be a gamble and the stakes are high. Your life is on the table with the hand you've been dealt. Are you going to play it or are you going to fold? Consider this; would you play your hand the way you see someone else playing theirs when you don't know what their holding? It happens all the time when people follow pop culture or broadcast news instead of focusing on what they can do in their circle of influence. Be effective where you have influence. Blossom where you are planted so you can grow and move on. The stakes are too high not to. Love Always - Coach J Eggs are awesome. Their nutritional content and many ways they can be prepared make them a staple of my daily routine. Reflecting this morning as I prepared my eggs I thought back to all the ways I have had eggs prepared - scrambled w cheese, omelettes filled with veggies and bacon, runny yolk to dip toast in, etc. Then my mind brought me back to a taste I craved, the best tasting eggs in my memory reserve, my grandmother frying eggs in her cast iron skillet, the edges slightly crispy but the yolk still runny, simply seasoned with the perfect amount of black pepper and salt. Simple, direct, filled with loving intent = perfect. Hugging my Grandma angel this morning an reminding you of yours. Love Always - Coach J |
